What is the UCAT?
The UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) is the admissions test for Medicine and Dentistry at most UK universities. It tests how you think under time pressure — not your subject knowledge — across a set of fast-paced cognitive sections and a situational judgement test.

- Delivered at Pearson VUE test centres in the UK and worldwide
- Sat once, in the summer before you apply
Format & scoring
- Three cognitive subtests: Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning
- Plus the Situational Judgement Test (SJT)
- Just under 2 hours, with no negative marking
- Total score 900–2700; the SJT is reported in Bands 1–4

- Booking opens: 23 June 2026

- Fee: £70 (UK) / £115 (overseas); bursaries available
What's changed?
- Abstract Reasoning was removed in 2025 — there are now three cognitive subtests, not four
- The score range is now 900–2700 (previously 1200–3600)
- The BMAT has been retired — the UCAT is now the single admissions test for Medicine
