How we help

Support for every part of the application

Interview practice

Economics interviews test how you reason, not what you've memorised. A tutor runs a mock interview with you, often around a problem or a short passage, and gives you honest feedback.

The TMUA (Cambridge)

For next year's applicants. See our TMUA page for how the test works and our TMUA tutors.

The TARA (Oxford)

For next year's applicants. See our TARA page for how the test works and our TARA tutors.

Written work

For History and Economics, we help you choose the essay to send and practise talking about it. Your essay must be your own, so we won't write or edit it for you.

Choosing a course

Economics, Economics and Management, History and Economics, Environment, Law, and Economics, or PPE? A tutor can talk you through how they differ.

I recently graduated from St Edmund Hall, Oxford, with a First in Economics & Management. I was also awarded the John Hicks Prize for the highest mark in Macroeconomics Finals. I tutor Maths and Economics, and I try to keep lessons practical — we go through whatever a student is struggling with, work out exactly where the confusion sits, and spend most of the lesson applying it to real questions.

I'm particularly good at spotting small mistakes in someone's reasoning and explaining things a different way if the first explanation hasn't landed. I like students to talk through how they reached an answer, because that makes it far easier to see what's actually going wrong. I've helped two Economics & Management applicants with the Oxford admissions process, mainly by putting together tailored reading lists and suggesting ways they could build on their interests beyond the school curriculum — both went on to receive interviews, and one received an offer. I sat Oxford's reasoning admissions test myself, scoring 73.9, before it was replaced by the TARA. I'm happy to work with students aiming for top grades, but just as happy with anyone who wants the subject to feel less confusing.

Hi everyone! I'm Isabelle, and I'm studying Economics and Management at the University of Oxford. I scored 84 in TSA Critical Thinking and as well as securing an offer from Oxford, received offers from all five of my UCAS choices, including LSE and Warwick. Alongside the TARA, I can also support TMUA preparation, and I love helping students build genuine confidence and tailor my approach to how they learn best.

I achieved four A-Levels (two A*s, two As) and an EPQ, and I've tutored students from KS3 through to A-Level in Maths and Chemistry, as well as mentoring Year 12 students in Chemistry. Outside academics I competed in regional hockey and cricket through school and now row at Oxford — so I know first-hand what it takes to balance serious academic work with other commitments, and how to help students manage their time to do the same.

My name's Ben and I'm a student at the University of Oxford studying Economics and Management. I offer tutoring for Oxbridge admissions, including the TARA and interview practice, as well as A-Level Maths and Economics. I achieved four A*s at A-Level and eleven grade 9s at GCSE, so I understand both the subject knowledge and the exam technique needed to achieve top grades. I particularly enjoy breaking down difficult concepts into simple, intuitive explanations and adapting my teaching style to suit each student.

I've been tutoring for the past three years, helping students build confidence and improve their academic performance, and I've supported students preparing for the TARA as well as giving personal statement feedback. I've tutored ten students in Maths and Economics at A-Level and GCSE — including one GCSE maths student who passed the subject after previously failing it seven times. For Oxbridge applicants I can provide guidance throughout the admissions process, helping students approach it with greater confidence and develop the problem-solving and analytical skills Oxford and Cambridge look for. I sat Oxford's reasoning admissions test myself in 2025, before the TARA replaced it, scoring 78 — it assessed the same critical thinking and problem solving the TARA now covers.

Questions

Economics admissions FAQs

Do I need A-level Economics?

No. None of these courses requires it. Cambridge Economics needs A-level Maths, and some colleges also want Further Maths. Oxford Economics and Management needs Maths at grade A or A*.

Which test do I take?

Cambridge Economics uses the TMUA. Oxford Economics and Management, and History and Economics, use the Critical Thinking and Problem Solving parts of the TARA. Environment, Law, and Economics at Cambridge has no test.

Can I sit the TMUA or TARA in January instead?

Not for Oxford or Cambridge. The January sitting (4–8 January 2027) is for other universities, and for a few special cases such as Cambridge mature applicants applying in January.

What happened to Land Economy?

Cambridge renamed it Environment, Law, and Economics, starting with students applying for 2027 entry.

How many mock interviews should I book?

We suggest a series of sessions with one tutor, as many as you need, to build your technique. A tutor who knows you can see what you're improving on and take each session further than the last.

Then book one or two sessions with tutors you haven't met. On the day, you'll be interviewed by people you've never spoken to, who ask questions in their own way. Practising with someone new shows you whether your technique holds up when the style and the questions are unfamiliar.

Ready to strengthen your Economics application?

Tell us a little about the course and where you'd like support — interview, the TMUA, the TARA or choosing a course — and we'll get back to you about a tutor who fits. No packages, no obligation.
