How medicine interviews workInterviews
Medicine interviews: what to expect
Oxford and Cambridge interview in a different way from most other medical schools. These are the arrangements for students who applied in October 2026, for entry in 2027.
Oxford and Cambridge
Both use traditional interviews with tutors, not timed stations. You work through problems out loud, and you may be given a text, a graph or an object to discuss. How you reason matters more than reaching one right answer.
Oxford: online, with two colleges, on Monday 14 or Tuesday 15 December 2026. Decisions come on 12 January 2027.
Cambridge: 7–18 December 2026, online or in person, depending on the college. Most applicants have one or two interviews.
Other UK medical schools
Many use MMIs (multiple mini interviews): a series of short, timed stations, each testing something different, such as communication, ethics or why you want to study medicine. Others use a panel interview.
Most interview between December and February, and some run into March. Several interview UK applicants in person and international applicants online.
Check each medical school's own page for its format and dates.
Don't wait for your invitation. Oxford interviews Medicine applicants on 14 and 15 December, and invitations can arrive with little notice. The best time to start practising is now.

How we help
Practice for every kind of medicine interview
Oxford and Cambridge interviews
A tutor runs a mock interview in the Oxford or Cambridge style: a science problem, a graph or a short text to think through out loud, then honest feedback.
Mock MMI stations
Timed stations like the real thing, so you get used to switching topic every few minutes and staying clear under time pressure.
Ethics and role play
Practise talking through ethical scenarios and role-play stations calmly, and showing how you weigh up a difficult situation.
Why medicine, and your work experience
Learn to talk about your work experience and your reasons for studying medicine in a way that is clear, honest and sounds like you.
The UCAT
For next year's applicants. See our UCAT page for how the test works and our UCAT tutors.

Alice
Hi! I'm Alice, a current Medicine student at the University of Oxford. I achieved 10 grade 9s at GCSE and four A*s at A-Level, and scored well on the UCAT under the scoring system used at the time, with a Band 1 in the Situational Judgement Test. I've been tutoring GCSE and A-Level Chemistry and Biology with MyOxbridgeTutor for two and a half years, and I have over 200 hours of tutoring experience.

Before university I provided mentoring sessions at my sixth form for prospective medicine applicants, and my admissions test results at the time placed me in the top few percent of scores achieved. I have years of experience working with children and teenagers through childminding and volunteering, and I think working in partnership with students is at the centre of good teaching — listening comes first. Outside tutoring I'm a keen runner and enjoy Spanish and art alongside my studies.

Chloe
Hi, I'm Chloe and I'm a third-year Medicine student at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. I received all 9s at GCSE and four A*s at A-Level. I know what it takes to make a strong Oxbridge medicine application, even coming from a state school background with less support — and that's exactly the experience I want to pass on.

I've tutored students at GCSE and A-Level and provided mock interviews for medicine applicants, both for Oxbridge and for other medical schools, giving advice and practice under realistic conditions. I've also mentored students more broadly — suggesting super-curricular reading, reading through personal statements, and helping them find work experience and opportunities like university subject days that they can genuinely talk about at interview or on their application. I sat the UCAT under the previous scoring system and also took the BMAT before it was discontinued, so I know the medicine admissions process from the inside.

How it works
Book by the hour, as many sessions as you need
Choose your tutor
Pick a tutor from this page and send them a message. Not sure who to choose? Tell us the medical schools you've applied to and when you're interviewing, and we'll suggest someone.
Arrange your sessions
We put you in touch with your tutor to agree times. For students under 18, a parent is included in all messages.
Practise online
Your tutor plays the interviewer, then talks you through what went well and what to work on.
How many sessions?
We suggest a series of sessions with one tutor, as many as you need, to build your technique. A tutor who knows you can see what you're improving on and take each session further than the last.
Then book one or two sessions with tutors you haven't met. On the day, you'll be interviewed by people you've never spoken to, who ask questions in their own way. Practising with someone new shows you whether your technique holds up when the style and the questions are unfamiliar.
Our charging promise: You only ever pay for the hours you need to use, no packages or contracts. Rates vary by tutor and are shown on each tutor's profile.
Questions
Medicine admissions FAQs
What is an MMI?
A multiple mini interview: a series of short, timed interview stations. Each station tests something different, such as communication, ethics or your reasons for studying medicine. Many UK medical schools use them.
Do Oxford and Cambridge use MMIs?
No. Both use traditional interviews with tutors. Oxford's are online. At Cambridge, each college decides whether its interviews are online or in person.
How is my UCAT score used?
Cambridge uses your overall score on the four cognitive UCAT subtests (not the Situational Judgement score) to help choose who to interview, and sets no minimum score. Oxford also uses the UCAT, and shortlists about 425 applicants a year. Other medical schools use the UCAT in different ways, so check each one.
When should I start interview practice?
Now. Oxford interviews Medicine applicants on 14 and 15 December, Cambridge's interviews start on 7 December, and many other medical schools interview from December.
Is Biomedical Sciences the same as Medicine?
No. Oxford's Biomedical Sciences course studies how the body works, but it doesn't train you as a doctor. It uses the ESAT, not the UCAT.
Ready to practise for your medicine interview?
Tell us which medical schools you've applied to and when you're interviewing, and we'll get back to you about a tutor who fits. No packages, no obligation.
