I have over 100 hours of tutoring experience across GCSE and A-Level humanities, and I've supported students through their Oxbridge applications. I aim to create an open, friendly environment where students enjoy the work and start to develop a sophisticated, distinctive voice in their writing.

I've worked with several students on their Oxbridge applications, primarily prospective linguists but also English applicants, supporting personal statements, wider reading, essay writing, essay competitions and interview preparation — a holistic approach to what can be a daunting process. Language learning is about more than accuracy: especially at A-Level and Pre-U, engaging with literature, film and wider culture matters, and that cultural awareness is exactly what strengthens an Oxbridge application. I help students explore the diversity of the French and Spanish-speaking worlds, from Latin America to francophone Africa, and find the academic interests they can express clearly in a personal statement and at interview.

I'm happy to help with personal statements, interview practice and the close language and literature work at the heart of a French application. Alongside my studies I've tutored French and supported younger students, and I'd love to help you develop both your application and your love of the subject for the new admissions cycle.

I've supported students with several aspects of the university admissions process, particularly personal statements, mock interviews and admissions test preparation — reviewing and editing statements to improve structure, clarity, academic focus and how well they communicate genuine interest in the subject, and running mock interview sessions focused on thinking aloud, responding to unfamiliar questions and explaining reasoning clearly. This year I took part in the training of new Cambridge interviewers as their 'example candidate', which gave me unusual insight into what humanities interviewers are actually looking for. I sat Cambridge's MML admissions assessment myself and was told on receiving my offer that I had performed especially strongly, gaining a place at my first-choice college. As a schools outreach ambassador I'm familiar with the Cambridge application process and enjoy helping prospective students feel more informed and confident.

I've tutored for three years, teaching French and Spanish from KS3 to A-Level and IB. My approach is flexible and collaborative — I get to know how each student learns, prepare varied materials to keep sessions engaging, and recap and consolidate before moving on. I often plan the next lesson together with the student around what's working for them.

My one-to-one experience includes supporting students from my sixth form with Oxbridge applications in Modern Languages and History, running interview-style questioning around their personal statement and their approach to the subject. I draw on my own Cambridge application and the parts I found hardest, especially pushing thinking beyond what's written on the page. I've also led study sessions at my college for groups of up to eighteen prospective applicants, adapting to the numbers and reinforcing what actually makes an application work. Alongside this I've helped in classrooms from reception through to sixth form.

My success in public examinations was in large part due to strong study, revision and exam techniques, and I aim to teach these to my students — including all the tips and tricks that are commonly overlooked. I am intensely passionate about my subjects and can only hope that this passion is infectious. My areas of interest lie in linguistics, particularly the development of late Latin into early French, and the reconstruction of Proto-Indo-European — about which I wrote an essay that was Highly Commended in the Fitzwilliam College Cambridge Ancient World and Classics Essay Competition 2024. During my time at school I mentored students applying for Modern Languages or Classics at Oxbridge.

I sat the German MLAT for my own Oxford application before it was withdrawn, and I'm equally comfortable supporting French language work. At Yale I was among the 10% of applicants selected as a peer tutor, meeting students weekly for two years and giving instant feedback on their essays and creative writing — from clarity of expression to thesis and structure. I love helping students find and sharpen their own voice on the page.

I've tutored GCSE and A-Level English and French for four years, and this year I supported a student to an Oxford offer for French and History. Through a residential Oxbridge summer programme, I ran application workshops — recommending wider reading, crafting authentic personal statements, and running mock interviews to build confidence. I particularly enjoy helping students show their academic curiosity and present the best version of themselves.
